NORFOLK | Today, the women and men of the International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) in the Port of Virginia and the employers of the Hampton Roads Shipping Association supported and joined with members of the ILA and waterfront employers from Maine to Texas to peacefully protest and to honor George Floyd.

The International Longshoremen’s Association, AFLCIO (ILA) and the United States Maritime Alliance, Ltd. (USMX) agreed to temporarily suspend all-cargo operations for one hour and observe an 8 minute 46 second moment of silence in honor of this solemn occasion.  Local events were held simultaneously at Norfolk International Terminals, Virginia International Gateway in Portsmouth, and Newport News Marine Terminal and were timed to coincide with Mr. George Floyd’s final memorial service.

Watch the video on VMA's Facebook page of the event held at Norfolk International Terminals and hear the remarks of those that spoke.

The Hampton Roads Shipping Association and the Virginia Maritime Association participated, demonstrating that their organizations will not condone racism in any manner and that we stand with those seeking equality for all.
