Coast Guard Reopens Port

Saturday, September 15, 2018

Virginia Maritime Association

The U.S. Coast Guard has issued the following.

Setting of Maritime Port Condition:

RETURN TO NORMAL PORT STATUS

SUMMARY: This advisory is to inform you that following the passage of Hurricane FLORENCE, the Captain of the Port Hampton Roads has reopened the port without restrictions as of 5 a.m. today.

Mariners are advised that in advance of the storm, synthetic aids to navigation were temporarily established at certain locations across the Mid-Atlantic region. A synthetic aid is an Automated Identification System (AIS) aid to navigation message broadcast to an assigned position where a corresponding buoy should be located. The absence or substantially different position of a physical aid compared to the same synthetic aid would indicate a discrepant physical aid to navigation, which should be reported to the Coast Guard.

Please report any observed navigational hazards or aids to navigation discrepancies to the Sector Hampton Roads Command Center at (757) 483-8567.

COMMUNICATIONS: Call (757) 668-5555 option 3 for current port conditions.
