Virginia Maritime Association values you as a member and recognizes the importance of protecting your information.
We are committed to protecting the privacy, confidentiality and security of your personal information. This Notice is to inform you of the types of information we collect, the circumstance under which we may share the information with nonaffiliated third parties, and how we use and protect that information.
The policies and procedures described in this Privacy Notice are subject to change, but we will notify you of any significant changes. This Notice replaces any previous Privacy Notice issued.
THE INFORMATION WE COLLECT
This notice applies to all information collected or submitted on the Virginia Maritime Association website. On some pages, you can order products, register for events, make requests, and register to receive materials. The types of information collected at these pages are:

On some pages, you can submit information about other people. For example, if you purchase multiple tickets for an event you may be prompted to submit the names of those attending. In this circumstance, the types of personal information collected are:

THE WAY WE USE INFORMATION
We do not disclose any information about our members or former members to any nonaffiliated third parties other than may be necessary to complete and order or request, and as required or otherwise permitted by law. This means we have opted out on your behalf for this type of information sharing outside of the Virginia Maritime Association.
- We use the information you provide about yourself when placing an order or registering for an event only to complete that order or registration. We do not share this information with outside parties except to the extent necessary to complete that order or registration.
- We use the information you provide about someone else when registering for an event only to identify attendee names and when applicable, to print attendee name badges. We do not share this information with outside parties except to the extent necessary to complete that registration.
- We use non-identifying and aggregate information to better design our website and to share with advertisers. For example, we may tell an advertiser that X number of individuals visited a certain area on our website, or that Y number of men and Z number of women filled out our registration form, but we would not disclose anything that could be used to identify those individuals.
We only share the information we collect, as previously described, with:
- Companies that perform marketing services on our behalf, or companies with whom we have joint marketing agreements; and
- Others only as permitted or required by law (such as in response to subpoenas and information reported to consumer-reporting agencies).
We very carefully select the companies that provide services on our behalf. These companies are required to safeguard your information and use it only for authorized purposes.
If your membership is canceled, revoked, or your relationship becomes inactive, we will handle your information in accordance with this Notice and in accordance with your consumer privacy preference.
Finally, we never use or share the personally identifiable information provided to us online in ways unrelated to the ones described above without also providing you an opportunity to opt-out or otherwise prohibit such unrelated uses.
EVENT CANCELLATION
When purchasing tickets or registering to attend any VMA sponsored event, please be advised your positive response signifies a financial commitment unless we receive a written response by the cancellation deadline date noted for subject event.
OUR COMMITMENT TO DATA SECURITY
To prevent unauthorized access, maintain data accuracy, and ensure the correct use of information, we have put in place appropriate physical, electronic, and managerial procedures to safeguard and secure the information we collect online.
HOW YOU CAN ACCESS OR CORRECT YOUR INFORMATION
You can access all your personally identifiable information that we collect online and maintain by contacting our Member Services Desk. We use this procedure to better safeguard your information.
You can correct factual errors in your personally identifiable information by sending us a request that credibly shows error.
To protect your privacy and security, we will also take reasonable steps to verify your identity before granting access or making corrections.
