Congressman Taylor Testifies for USACE Appropriations Towards Channel Deeping
Friday, March 10, 2017
The Virginia Maritime Association wishes to express its gratitude to Congressman Scott Taylor (VA-02) who gave testimony this week requesting that the Subcommittee on Energy and Water Development - House Committee on Appropriations, appropriate $2.9billion in FY2018 to the Army Corp of Engineers Navigation Program to support federal projects along coast and inland waterways.
Congressman Taylor noted in his request, “Unfortunately, our federal channels are often not deep or wide enough for the large ships to come in fully loaded and they must operate in a less than efficient manner. This adds to transportation costs, hurts our economy and stifles job creation. Providing an appropriation of $2.9 billion in Fiscal Year 2018 for the Army Corps Navigation Program, will allow federal navigation channels to be better maintained to their authorized and constructed depths and move forward a number of important seaport projects.”
